The staff was very congenial and very
helpful. We needed an extra bed and it was
already in our room. Everything was set for
our arrival.

We enjoyed our stay, the staff was very helpful, and the location is fabulous!

We were arriving at the hotel after a 15 day cruise, and the cruise ship was docked a long distance from the hotel. We called the hotel, and asked if we could bring several bags to them to hold the night before our checkin, to make our transition from the ship to the hotel easier, and they were happy to accomodate us. It really made life a lot easier for us!

Location was perfect, within easy walking distance of San Marco and the Basilica etc. The room was very grand, but a bit on the small side. Service was very good throughout. Seemed to be vey good value for money considering it is only a couple of doors away from the Danielli.

The staff were polite except for one person at the reception desk who had a rather curt and uncharming manner. We had a junior suite on the third floor, facing the lagoon, with a wonderful view. The room facilities were excellent, as was breakfast in the room. The only problem we encountered was the sound of voices and coughing coming from an adjcacnet room, which was periodically rather annoying. I would guess that the walls are rather thin or are not very well acoustically insulated. We ate dinner once in the hotel restaurant; the staff were professional and friendly, and the food was excellent and resonably priced. Much better to eat in a place like this than in some of the rip-off restaurants on nearby streets. At 310 euros per night for a junior suite in December, this hotel is by no means cheap, but is very good, and the location is perfect.

On our fourth and last day, minor flooding of St. Mark's square and the promenade occurred. As the hotel faces directly onto the promenade, the restaurant was inundated by a few inches of water and breakfast had to be cancelled. The floor of the lobby was wet for several hours and the elevator was out of commission for a while because water had poured into the elevator shaft and had to be vacuumed out. The hotel handled this minor crisis very well, and everything was back to normal by the late afternoon. Apparently Venice is affected by these minor floodings several times per year, normally lasting less than a day (the water rises only 1-2 feet, but that is enough to encroach upon many buildings and cover many sidewalks)

It would be helpful to have more specific information about the travel from the airport to the hotel. We did not realize that we had to take a shuttle from the airport to the place that we get the water ferry to San Marco.

We really enjoyed our stay. However ther were a couple of things that are probably worth mentioning.
No ironing board in the room. Had to pay 10 euro to have a shirt ironed (in house).
The room was gorgeous, however being on the first floor and facing the grand canal it was noisy. Prehaps the soundproofing wasn't the best?
The breakfast was adequate, but a bit budget considering the 439 euro a night room rate.

The suite was luxurious, classic Venetian style but not over the top.
Spectacular view overlooking the Grand Canal & the Island.(really made the stay)
Fantastic location, just 50m from St Marks Square.

We were surprised that drinking water was not available in the room free of charge. In fact no 'extras' such as perhaps fruit were provided other than those covered by the charges for the mini-bar.
