Although the directions get you to the area of the hotel, it is very confusing on the little streets and alleys. We were fortunate that a man saw our obvious confusion and personally walked us to the hotel. We were close and probably would have found it eventually, but a map that names the streets would have been more helpful. I dont hold you accountable for that...I certainly could have acquired a Venice street map prior to arrival. But the Venice street system is confusing. We easily found our way around after we were accustomed to it.

I don't recall the name of the gentleman at the front desk, but he was fantastic. He came over and promptly fixed a broken hair dryer for us one morning, was always courteous, helpful and pleasant to everyone and seemed to speak several languages rather fluently. Upon leaving I left my credit card at the desk and he made this heroic effort following us to the water taxi and leaping on the boat with my card at the last moment. I truly appreciated his efforts.

The steps would be difficult for many to manage while hauling luggage. If you can't handle that, be sure to ask for assistance at check-in as I am sure they would have helped had we asked.
The entrance is not marked and the way from the other hotel is confusing so perhaps a printed map would be helpful to guests. My daughter was with us and she has a wonderful sense of direction or I am not sure if we would still be wandering around the streets of Venice (not a bad thing at all, by the way).

Clean, neat rooms, a decent breakfast, but the coffee was only okay. Rooms are smaller than the average American hotel, but that was fine with us. Italian beds are on average very hard and that was the worst part of our stay in Italy...trying to sleep on hard mattresses. The bathroom was very nice. The location was great and we found it very easy to get to the water taxis and tourist spots and find restaurants all without being right in the center of major crowds. The young man at the desk was great..always helpful and informative. He was a gem. The view from our room over the canal with the gondeliers was charming and we later found ourselves looking up from one of those gondeliers as it passed right below our room.

Directions could be improved on, especially for inexperienced travellers. The receptionist (male) when we arrived was extremely helpful. His coworker was more reserved.

As our room was very near a bridge connecting the districts of San Marco and Rialto, it was quite noisy until about 23:00 o'clock. In the summer I could imagine this to be a problem.

A more detailed map of the immediate area and also to inform the visitor that the Small Charming Inn Rio Alto is an annexe to the Hotel Bartolomeo and that check in is at the Hotel rather than the Inn.

Taking the above comments into consideration, I would have no hesitation in recommending my friends to stay there.

It would be useful to explain that the Small Charming Inn is an annexe of Hotel Bartolomeo and so this means that (for instance)breakfast is served in the Hotel rather than Small Charming Inn. This was not a problem in the slightest (as the hotel is so close), so this is by no means a negative comment, it would just be useful to have this information in order to get a better idea of the property.

The room was clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated with simple colours. Very friendly and helpful staff. And great morning coffee! Highly recommended.

Just that check-in should be at the Bartholomew Hotel as there isn't anyone at the accommodation itself. If this information isn't given on the web site perhaps it could be given in the confirmation and directions.

Our room was fabulous, pristine clean and a seperate lovely bedroom for our duaghter which we never expected. Thought we would be all three in one room but we got two rooms ,one with the double bed and one with a lovely bed in a seperate room.It took a bit of time to get used to the water boats going on the canal underneath by but the double glazing is very ggood and one didn't hear them if the window was closed. The location is perfect, in the heart of the hubub of Venice. With shops all about.

I have recommended the hotel to two friends . pristine , central location and good value.We will always stay here if in Venice.

The room is pleasant - clean, quiet, great bed. Only concern is that it is a bit small but not much of a detriment. More towels would be nice. We Canadians like two big bath towels, one hand towel, and a facecloth.

The rooms overlooking the canal are nice during the day, as you get a nice atmosphere. But during the night can be quite noisy, due to boats travelling around.
So if you are a lite sleeper, probably not the best room.
Overall though the rooms are very good.

The breakfast is not worth it. You are better off going out to eat in the morning.

Directions said get off water bus at Rialto. Rialto has two stations, one before the bridge, on the wrong side of the canal, and the second one near the hotel. I got off at the first Rialto station and had to lug baggage over the bridge.
