I had a SUPERB stay in my week at Il Villino. I recommmend it without hesitation to anyone. It is situated a short walk from the Duomo, adjacent to the Santa Maria Hospital--just far enough away to be in quiet neighborhood, with amenities such as a laundry, a bar, and a 'supermarket' just a block away. Many restaurants can be found within a few minutes walk in the direction of Santa Croce. My room was delightful--perfect for one person and adeqaute for two. Mr. Bandini is a wonderful and helpful host.

It is very centrally located while being away from the 'hustle and bustle' and thus offering a respite from the noise of the city center. One can easily walk to either Santa Crie or San Lorenzo of the Galleria Academis in less than 10 minutes. Once one learns the 'short cuts' it is about the same to Pallazo Vecchio and Uffizi.

I think this is the perfect place to stay,especially if you plan to spend more than 2-3 days in Florence. You can begin to become a bit familiar with the neighborhood and shops around the Rezidenza.

Not all of the TV's actually have CNN or BBC. The breakfast, described as Mediterranean, is just a continental breakfast. BUt these are minor shortcomings, since the hotel is so comfortable, and the staff so helpful.

The hotel is lovely, a little sanctuary in the middle of the busy city. Beautifully decorated, one feels as if they are staying at the home of an Italian friend. The staff are friendly, helpful and made us feel welcome and at home. WE LOVED IT!

The street on which the hotel is located is not impressive, and we were a bit concerned when we pulled up. Fortunately, beyond the locked doors was a delightful surprise that met all our expectations.

Our visit exceeded our expectations. Sergio was a gracious and helpful host and quickly met every request and need, as well as offering suggestions to make our visit to Florence more enjoyable. Our room was charming, very neat and clean, and the Residenza Il Villino proved to be an oasis in a busy and crowded city.

The courtyard was especially nice with its beautiful magnolia tree and fresh flowers. Don't be offput by the street where the hotel is located - the treasure is behind closed doors. Breakfast was the same each day, but included fresh juice and rolls, cereal, yogurt, fruit, salami and cheese, and delicious coffee. Fresh and delicious.

The accommodations were very charming. We were awakened each day by birds and church bells, not traffic, and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere after busy days of sightseeing. The location was ideal, a short walk to the Duomo, so it was very convenient. Sergio was a wonderful and helpful host and made our stay as delightful as possible. I had reserved a double room which turned out to be a very large one bedroom suite. It was on the ground floor so it was a bit noisy but that was easily rectified with ear plugs each night.
The location of the hotel was terrific! A short walk to everything but off the tourist beaten path.

The staff was incredibly helpful. We had a medical emergency while there, and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty in helping us get to the emergency room and find doctors for outpatient follow-up visits on short notice. The kindness and helpfulness of the staff is what really impressed us the most about our stay there.

I'm fairly certain that the web site said that all rooms were air conditioned, but ours wasn't (or, if it was, it wasn't working). Turns out that it wasn't a problem because it was cool during the evening and nighttime.

The problem with the directions was mainly due to our confusion on when we were allowed to drive into what were marked restricted areas and the many one-way streets. Once we got to the area, we were fine. Sergio directed us to where we could park the car at the Pizza La Liberta based upon our needs for access to it during our stay (a little further away, but less expensive). But the 'P' parking indicator on the apt Firenze tourist map incorrectly shows where the parking garage is at the Piazza: it's actually under the park northeast of the Piazza.

Sergio and his wife could not have been more helpful and pleasant. They made us reservations at the Uffizi and Accademia saving us a huge wait in line. They also made recommendations for places to eat depending upon our tastes. The bountiful breakfast was very good, once including a shared copy of the International Hearld Tribune.

Afterwards, my daughter realized she had left something when she checked out. I called Sergio the next day: he had found her missing items and was only waiting for us to tell him where we wanted it sent, refusing reimbursement for the expense.

Florence is a very difficult place for the uniniated to navigate. A decent sketch map would help as well as a warning as to how narrow the streets are in the centre and the one way system means you may have to travel far arounnd to get to the right end of the street you are already on.

Yes - unless you really need a car drop it off at the hire dealer and pick it up again after your stay - a car is just not needed - hire a scooter if necessary.

On a recent trip from Venice to Rome we spent one night in Florence at the Residenza il Villino. What a pity that we didn’t have more time to enjoy this delightful hotel. Our room had a beautiful wood beam ceiling and a stained-glass door that led a private balcony overlooking a delightful courtyard below. Due to our limited amount of time to spend in Florence we choose this hotel for its choice location near all of the top tourist attractions.
The real treasure of Residenza il Villino is the owner, Sergio Badini, who couldn’t possible be any more accommodating to his guests. Driving in Florence is a nightmare and there were no parking places near the hotel, so we parked about two blocks away and walked to the hotel to inquire about a parking garage. Sergio walked back to the car with us and drove our car to a garage he recommended near the hotel, negotiated a special price for us, and then carried our luggage the two-block walk to the hotel. He makes you feel like you are very special guest in his private home. We highly recommend the Residenza il Villino and will certainly stay there again on our next visit to Florence.

Sergio and his son Lorenzo were very friendly, oriented us to the room and facility and gave us our keys promptly. We received maps and any information we needed.

This 'inn' is the best we have stayed in Italy. Sergio is very attentive and on top of everything. The rooms are spacious and clean, with domed ceilings and tile floor. The breakfast was fresh and in a fabulous atmosphere, outside in the cool morning air. The location is great with easy access to all sites by foot or bus.

The owners of the property are on site and extremely willing to do whatever the client wishes in order to make their stay comfortable and enjoyable. After a couple days, we did not want to leave! I think that says it all.

My wife and I loved our stay at Il Villino. Sergio, the owner, was extremely friendly, and we were able to get a room with a view of the Duomo rising above the rooftops (about a 5-10 minute walk away). Il Villino seems to have about a dozen rooms, and was converted into a hotel just in 2002, I think, so everything is new, the bathroom was great and the heating (we visited in February) was good. No complaints. It is clean and well kept, and we had a very enjoyable stay.

Sergio greeted us by name, and waited for us beyond the normal desk closing time because we had a late flight. He gave us a room I had asked for that I had seen a picture of on the website.

An excellent stay. I don't mean to imply, by saying that the place was better than on the website, that the hotel is poorly presented on the website. In fact it had some of the best pictures, I thought. But I always expect photos to hide the faults of a place, and to make it look better than it really is (had this experience with a hotel in Rome, once), so I had lowered my expectations a bit. The room we had was just like it looked in the pictures, and maybe a bit better - particularly the bathroom which was clean and new, and had a powerful shower, even though it was on the top floor.

Granted, it was off-season, and we were given a 'superior' room for the price of a standard (I was shocked we could find a really nice room in Florence for under 100 euros), but I think this place would be good value even in peak season.

You have the best (and if Il Villino is an example, most honest) photo galleries of hotels and B&B's I've seen on a site. It is particularly good that you have photos of multiple rooms, multiple bathrooms and of the outside of the hotels.

Sergio, the property manager was so accommodating, whether it be recommending a restaurant for dinner; providing us with directions to our sites for the day; providing extra pillows immediately upon request; carrying our luggage, arranging taxis, providing us with wine glasses. It was a wonderful place to stay and very well maintained property.

None, the only negative thing I could say is that there were couple of mosquitoes in our room at night, however, we didn't realize that there was an electronic device in our room that attracts and captures the mosiquitoes, that we inadvertantly unplugged. Once we plugged it back in and turned it on, the couple that were in the room disappeared. I would imagine that this is par-for-the-course in Europe where you don't have screens on the windows..

Il Villino is a beautiful place to stay! The web site descriptions are very accurate. Il Villino is very safe and secure and very quiet ... no street noise! We had delightful breakfasts in the dining area off the courtyard and awakened in the mornings to church bells ringing! We took a taxi to the Uffizi and walked back to the Accademia which was quite close to Il Villino. Sergio and Elizabeth made our reservations for these two galleries and also arranged for an excursion to Pisa. That was very good help! We were in easy walking distance of the Duomo and the Piazza Republica.

This must be the loveliest, friendliest b&b in Florence! The room was ever so comfortable with a good bed, nice bath with shower, wardrobe, desk, and couch. The stained glass windows opened out to the courtyard. We were on the second floor with easy steps to climb. The foyer had the receptionist's desk with a computer available to check your e-mail! The dining room had small tables with a view to the courtyard. Breakfast was a nice variety of fruit, cereal, yogurt, various breads and jams.

The owners were so helpful and pleasant to deal with. They booked side trips and museum reservations for us. The location is excellent, very close to the Duomo (I would not want to stay in the market train station area). The room is very spacious and you can enjoy your continental breakfast in a beautiful coutyard if you desire.
The breakfast is made up of cereal,buns,croissants,yogurt,coffee, ham and processed cheese. There is a mini-bar in your room and the the products are sold with very little mark up.
Traffic noise did not penetrate into our room but if you are on the ground floor you can hear guests move around when they come home at night. The cost was 120 Euro per night. We would definitely stay at the Il Viliono again.

Although we had to check out by 10am, we were not flying home until much later in the day. Sergio looked after our luggage, and provided bathroom facilities for us so that we could freshen up before travelling home.

On the facilities page, you mention that there is a computer, but your FAQs page says that there is a charge for the internet service. Perhaps there is a charge for the internet when accessed from the bedroom, but you should maybe add that Sergio has a computer in the breakfast room with internet access, which can be used by all of his guests free of charge.

We had a lovely stay at the Residenza Il Villino, and have already recommended the hotel to several friends. Sergio and his staff were kind and helpful at all times, and it sometimes felt as though we were staying in Sergio's home rather than in a hotel. Our accommodation was spotless and very comfortable. The manager of the hotel had the front door open for us before we even rang the bell, and greeted us by name. It was very welcoming.

The hotel is in a quieter area of the city, but not directly downtown. It was nice to be able to escape from the noise of the busier downtown area at this hotel. The air conditioner in the room did not work as well as we would have liked, but that was truly the only negative thing.

The owners couldn't have been more helpful. They advised us on restuarants, reserved tables and, on one occasion, even drove us there. They telephoned the airport about missing luggage and tracked down a coat left on a bus for us. The room was very quiet and clean, our only criticism is that the bedroom needed more drawer space and the bathroom another shelf for toiletries. Otherwise an excellent find. We visit Florence quiete frequently and will return to Il Villino.

Sergio was very cordial and the work his staff did was exceptional. The rooms were neat and clean, there was ample hot water, clean towels, and (a small thing) the drains worked well. It might be worth telling prospective residents that not only is Il Villino conveniently located near the city center, but there's a laundromat and small grocery store right around the corner.

Sergio had ready contact with a car service. It might be to his advantage to use that contact and offer, for an additional fee, to pick up and take guests to the airport. All things being equal, customers who know that Il Villino will take care of them from the door of their plane to the door of his residence might choose to stay with him rather than another residence or hotel.
Sergio might want to reach out to Asian customers by including Chinese or Japanese translation of his website.

Staying at Residenza Il Villino was one of the best travel decisions I have ever made. Not only was it a great location for us, but the room was fabulous - tasteful, immaculate and had a great terrace overlooking the interior courtyard. It also turned out to be very quiet -- which is exactly what we had hoped for.
More importantly, Elizabeth and Sergio, the proprietors, and their staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming all the while being very professional and accommodating.
Reservations with local tours for any side trips we wanted to take were all made for us as were reservations for museums and restaurants--all of which added to our being able just to sit back and enjoy.

Unless you are familiar with Florence it would be best to take a taxi to the hotel. It is a little hidden for a first time visitor to find. The taxi from the train station and from the airport were both very reasonable. Once you've been to the hotel there is no problem finding it again.

We found the Residenza Il Villino to be an excellent place to stay. The staff was always helpful, yet discreet. The rooms were extremely quiet. We asked Sergio and Roberto for restaurant recommendations and were absolutely delighted with their advice. These restaurants were not ones we would ever have found on our own but they really added to our experience of Florence.

A lovely, quiet hotel with very gracious host, Sergio, who went out of his way to make us comfortable. He recommended excellent restaurants for us. While it was a little distance (5 minutes walk) from the center of town (Duomo and Piazza del Signoria) this inconvenience was more than made up for by the quiet location. It was nice to get far from the madding crowds after walking around all day.

I was buzzed in on arrival and the hostess, I believe it was Mrs. Badini, immediately appeared at the front door to help me with my bags and welcome me. She called the porter to carry my luggage upstairs and she gave me a little tour of the breakfast room and courtyard and then also accompanied me to my room. She was friendly and gracious. Later as I was resting in my room, Sergio Badini called to remind me that I had a reservation at the Accademia Gallery for later in the day. I couldn't find my reservation numbers, but he had prepared a card with the times and numbers for my museum reservations.

I totally enjoyed my stay at Il Villino. The proprietors were friendly and gracious and helpful and I was very comfortable there. The room was attractive and spotless and the bathroom tiles and fixtures actually gleamed. It was delightfully quiet and the only sound I heard was the birds chirping in the lovely courtyard in the morning.

No problems at all with checkout. At breakfast Sergio told me to let him know when my bags were ready and he came upstairs to carry them for me and accompanied me out to the taxi. It was like staying with friends at a private home.

Here is an excellent value in Florence - well located, run by very involved very helpful and friendly owners. It has modern facilities, is very clean, is small and intimate, and is very well located - you can walk to anything in the city. The breakfast is OK and for a long stay can be a bit monotonous. And because of the charm of the place, it's a little noisier when guests are returning from dinners sometimes (rattling their keys into their doors to try to open or lock them). Recommended.

Residenza Il Villino is a very charming and romantic bed and breakfast. The rooms are comfortable and have a lot of characater. The courtyard where breakfast is eaten is so quaint and pretty, one could stay there all day. The location is convenient to all the major sites in Florence, and the staff/owners are most kind and helpful. I would definitely stay there again and I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend.

As a suggestion - it would be nice to have either coffee/tea making facilities in the rooms or alternatively in the breakfast area. As we found, sometimes, after a day walking around it would have been nice to have relaxed with a cuppa before leaving the villa again for dinner.

Extremely difficult to find if I hadn't used my GPS. Almost impossible to park if you drive. Once there, Sergio was extremely helpful in greeting us, orienting us to all the sights, and recommending wonderful dinner spots. It's a small oasis in the city. A real gem, but hidden.

Due to a group of young Americans, which were very loud during the night, we can't say that it was a quit hotel.
We don't see this a a foult of the hotel, some guests could be very painful if they are not civilized.

Perhaps we had too high an expectation from the photographs and the price we were paying - we were expecting extremely luxurious B&B accommodation ! What we got was good accommodation in a fine historical setting. The “luxury” element was lacking though (quite basic facilities in room, scuff marks on walls, broken tiles/some mildew in bathroom). Indisputably original accommodation, and helpful and courteous owners. But not “homely” accommodation (perhaps because of the number of rooms – it has more the feel of a small hotel. It lacks the personal touches).
We have stayed in more welcoming / better maintained B&B accommodation in Italy.
But undeniably impressive and a great location. If you are OK with the price, and your expectations are reasonable (and not as sky high as ours) then this is good accommodation. Florence is busy but beautiful. FINALLY - WATCH OUT FOR MOSQUITOES - EVEN IN NOVEMBER - WE WERE EATEN ALIVE ! ALSO BOOK YOUR GALLERY TICKETS AS SOON AS YOU CAN AFTER ARRIVAL - THERE CAN BE A 48 HOUR WAIT FOR YOUR CHOSEN ENTRANCE TIME EVEN OUT OF SEASON.

Our luggage was lost and our flight was delayed upon arriving and the staff at Il Villino was so helpful. The owner Sergio stayed late to wait for our arrival. They called the airline and airport for us to help find the baggage. We appreciated it very much!

Very nice! Only complaint would be the mosquitos...I left windows open at night as it was so quiet, and a number of mosquitos came in and we got quite a few bites, and were awakened by their buzzing around.

I did not use your online directions...I had been to Florence before and was familiar with the area.
Our room was just what I wanted...it had a view of the Duomo.

Sergio (the owner) went out of his way to help us. He made several reservations for us and showed us how to get to wherever we were going. We have no complaints whatsoever, only the highest of praise.

My only comment might be that the breakfast was described as 'rich.' We wondered beforehand what it might consist of, but found it to be a typical European breakfast, which was fine with us. The word 'rich' seemed to indicate that it might not be a healthy meal.

The Residenza was in a quiet part of town, but exactly what we were after. It had alot of atmosphere and was spotlessly clean with attention to detail in terms of decor as well as hospitality. We have recommended the Residenza to our friends and hope to return there soon.

I do not have enough information to determine if this is a good value for money. With the present exchange rate, and compared to hotels in the same price bracket as the States, this is on the expensive side for what you get. I don't know how it compares to other Florence hotels.

Small, but adequate, room. New, clean facilities. Very freindly and helpful staff. Decent location, about 15-20 minutes walk from where all the action is. Negative: mosquitoes, and the fact that the windows do not have screens. We did not turn on air conditioning (we prefer natural ventilation), and were eaten alive with windows open.
