It was an affordable hotel within easy walking range of most things you want to see in Florence. We felt very secure and the hotel was quiet. Around the corner was a restaurant that served the best meal we had in Florence.

Although the directions were not very clear in the Frommers book, I felt that the check in and arrival experience was first rate.

Mario and his wife were very helpful and took excellent care of me during my stay. They provided breakfast for me after breakfast hours had concluded and told me where I could exchange money at a reduced price, rather than take my money at an increased fare. In return, I have referred two of my friends there.

Wonderful hotel. Rooms are charming. Breakfast room and public rooms are great and the food is good. Hotel staff very helpful. A great place to base your travels in Tuscany.

Mario's staff were very helpful. They helped us reserve tickets to the Uffizi and for a wine tour. We inquired about this on the day we arrived and it was set up by that evening.

We enjoed staying there. This was our second time and felt that the service and decor of the hotel were much improved. The staff were very friendly and the rooms and lobby area had been updated with freh paint and new artwork.

Mario's is much like a bed and breakfast in the states. It is very close to the train station. Only a couple of blocks. There are several local restaurants on the same street and the locals also eat there. Everyone was very friendly.

The staff sought us out to ask us on the evening before check-out to see if we needed to have breakfast prepared earlier than usual for our check-out. This was not necessary, but how nice to be given the option!

Breakfast was a bit of a disaster. The staff tried and were really nice just not organised !Tables not cleared ,ran out of things and took ages to replenish,bad fresh fruit. Could be great without too much change.(I'm in the service industry!)

They had problems with the credit card connection, which complicated our checkout and that of the other gentleman also trying to check out. They were very nice about it, however.

The breakfast room is comfortable and inviting. We met other guests and compared touring ideas.
Mario, for a reasonable fee, will take guests on a personal drive through the Chianti region. It was a highpoint of our visit.

Directions we were given to the hotel assume arrival by train. We suggest for cars: Drive north on Via Valfonda (east side of the train station). Turn right into the bus parking lot, drive past the buses and follow the short Via Cennini to Via Faenze, where turn right. Hotel Marios is about 50 yards from the intersection on the right.

lovely hotel, really charming and loads of books and information about the area, they also have a nice bar area and a tourist info. next door.

Be prepared to bring your luggage up a large flight of stairs...no elevator.

The rooms were very clean but small. We were most disappointed with the shower. It was almost impossible to even enter the shower and close the accordian doors at the same time. The fact that the water drained right onto the floor was the most difficult thing to handle. It soaked the bathroom floor each time we showered.

The staff was very helpful in helping us get directions to the rental car office and assisting us down the flight of stairs with all of our luggage.

A fresh flower and a few pieces of fruit left each night in your room. They also served the best cappuccino during breakfast!

Since the hotel is on the second floor and I have a heart condition, it would have been helpful if I did not have to ask a fellow guest to carry my luggage up to the hotel.
